Becoming a parent can bring love, meaning, and joy — but it can also bring exhaustion, anxiety, guilt, and moments of self-doubt.
You may love your child deeply while still feeling overwhelmed by the demands of parenting. You may find yourself reacting in ways you did not expect, or wondering whether you are doing enough.
Parenting counselling offers a space to slow down, process what you are experiencing, understand your emotions and patterns, and reconnect with your own needs while caring for your child.

Honouring Your Parenting Experience

Parenting does not come with one set of answers that works for every family.

You may love your child and still feel tired, frustrated, helpless, or unsure of what to do. You may have a clear idea of the kind of parent you want to be, yet find that real-life parenting does not always go the way you imagined.

Parenting can also bring parts of yourself into focus — your childhood experiences, beliefs, expectations, and emotional reactions.

You do not have to be a “perfect parent” to deserve support.

Counselling can offer a non-judgmental space to make sense of what you are feeling, understand what you are going through, and explore ways of parenting that feel more aligned with who you are.

Understanding the Emotions & Patterns Behind Parenting

Your child’s behaviour can sometimes bring up strong emotions. When you feel angry, anxious, guilty, or overwhelmed, the reaction may be connected to more than what is happening in that moment.

Together, we can explore your emotions, beliefs, past experiences, and patterns of responding that may have developed through your parenting journey.

The goal is not to judge or change who you are as a parent, but to help you understand yourself more clearly — so you can have more choice in how you respond.

Who Is this For?

If you are feeling stressed, uncertain, guilty, or simply want to better understand yourself within your role as a parent, counselling can offer a supportive space to begin.

Parenting Stress & Exhaustion

You are carrying the ongoing responsibilities of parenting and feel overwhelmed, physically or emotionally exhausted, or have very little time to care for yourself.

Emotions & Patience

You find yourself feeling easily frustrated, angry, anxious, or overwhelmed, and want to better understand your emotional reactions.

Parenting Guilt & Self-Criticism

You often feel that you are not doing enough, or feel guilty when you take time for yourself or prioritize your own needs.

Parent-Child Relationship & Communication

You want to better understand your child and strengthen the communication, connection, and relationship between you.

Your Own Experiences

You notice that certain situations with your child bring up emotions, memories, beliefs, or experiences from your own childhood and want to understand these reactions more deeply.

Reconnecting With Your Own Life

Since becoming a parent, you may feel disconnected from who you used to be and want to reconnect with your own needs, interests, identity, and life.

You do not have to wait until you are completely overwhelmed to seek support.
Counselling can begin wherever you are right now, helping you care for yourself while navigating the ongoing journey of parenting.

How I Support Your Journey

A Space to Breathe

Parenting comes with constant responsibilities and things to manage. Counselling can give you time that is truly your own — a place to pause, process your emotions, and talk about the things you may not have space to say elsewhere.

Understanding Your Reactions & Patterns

We can explore the emotions, thoughts, and reactions that come up repeatedly in your parenting journey, understand where they may come from, and consider ways of responding that feel more supportive of you.

Staying Connected in the Relationship

Parenting is not only about managing your child’s behaviour. It is also about your relationship with them. We can explore how to understand your child while also staying connected to your own emotions and needs, creating more intentional and meaningful interactions.

A Space to Be Yourself

I’m Jessy Lok, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a background in Psychology.

I support people navigating parenting stress, life transitions, anxiety, self-criticism, and the emotional challenges that can arise within parent-child relationships.

My approach is warm, genuine, and non-judgmental. I believe counselling should be a space where you can temporarily put down the expectations of how you “should” be, speak honestly about what you are experiencing, and reconnect with yourself.

Becoming a parent does not mean you have to lose yourself.

Whether you are adjusting to the demands of parenting, feeling exhausted, or simply want to better understand yourself in this chapter of your life, you are welcome to come as you are.

I provide counselling in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, with in-person sessions available in Vancouver and online counselling available across British Columbia.
