Finding Your Way Back to Each Other

Couples Counselling

Relationships can be deeply meaningful, but they can also become difficult when communication breaks down, conflicts repeat, or both people begin to feel unheard.

You may still care deeply about each other, but find yourselves having the same arguments again and again. Perhaps one of you feels unheard, while the other feels criticized. Over time, these patterns can create distance, frustration, or uncertainty about how to move forward together.

Couples counselling provides a space to slow things down, understand what is happening between you, and explore new ways of communicating and relating to each other.

You don't have to figure everything out on your own.

Understanding Your Relationship Experience

Every relationship has its own history, patterns, strengths, and challenges. Sometimes the difficulty is not simply about the issue you are arguing about. Beneath a disagreement about communication, household responsibilities, parenting, intimacy, or finances, there may be deeper needs, fears, expectations, or ways of protecting yourselves. You may find yourselves asking:

“Why do we keep having the same argument?”

“How do we talk about difficult things without hurting each other?”

Couples counselling offers a space where both partners can slow down, be heard, and begin to understand not only what is being said, but what may be happening underneath the conflict.

What May Be Happening Between You?

Communication Difficulties

You may find it difficult to express what you need, listen to each other, or have conversations without becoming defensive or frustrated.

Repeated Conflicts

The same disagreements may keep coming back, even when you both want things to be different.

Feeling Disconnected

You may still care about each other but feel emotionally distant, lonely, or less connected than you once were.

Different Needs & Expectations

Differences around communication, family, finances, parenting, boundaries, or the future can create tension and uncertainty.

Trust & Hurt

Past experiences within or outside the relationship may have affected your sense of safety, trust, or connection.

Navigating Change Together

Life transitions such as marriage, becoming parents, career changes, or other major changes can shift the way you relate to each other.

How I Support Your Relationship

Creating Space for Both Perspectives

Each partner brings their own experiences, needs, and ways of understanding what is happening. Counselling provides space for both perspectives to be heard.

Understanding the Patterns Between You

Rather than focusing only on who is right or wrong, we can explore the patterns that keep bringing you back to the same conflicts.

Communicating with Greater Understanding

We can work on expressing needs, listening to one another, and having difficult conversations in ways that create more understanding and less defensiveness.

Rebuilding Connection

When conflict or distance has become part of the relationship, we can explore what may help you feel more connected, understood, and present with each other.

Who Is Couples Counselling For?

You don't have to wait until your relationship reaches a breaking point before seeking support.

A Space to Understand

Hello, I'm Jessy Lok, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia.

I believe couples counselling is not about deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, I aim to create a space where both partners can feel heard and understood, while also exploring the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental. Together, we can look at how your individual experiences, emotions, expectations, and ways of responding come together within the relationship.

The goal is not to create a “perfect” relationship.

It is to help you understand each other more deeply and make more intentional choices about how you want to relate to one another.

Relationships Change as We Change

A relationship does not stay the same throughout life. Marriage, parenthood, career changes, family responsibilities, and other transitions can all change what we need from ourselves and from each other.

Your Relationship Doesn't Have to Be Perfect to Be Worth Caring For
